Adult tomans usually hang around their fries to ensure that they are ok. A lure swimming around and right through the fries will usually trigger a strike. One thing to note when fish- ing them and removing them from their fries is to release them right back to their fries. While the tomans may be the most ferocious freshwater mon- ster, their fries are yummy titbits to tilapias, bass, cichlids, and many other fishes. Without the parent fishes around to care for their fries, other fishes will wipe them out. Tilapias, pea- cock bass, and other fishes that hunt in schools can wipe out an entire new generation of fries within a few minutes. Need- less to say, this will drive them (tomans) to extinction.
