The Angler Magazine

With the Penn Slammer IV’s drag set high, I gave the rod a strike and a battle ensued. The Abu Garcia Conolon rod bent as the powerful fish tried to break free from the line and hook that had a good grip on it. I pumped the rod with all my might and the pressure on both the fish and my right hand was in- tense. Within a short time, the brute, an angry grouper sur- faced and was soon brought to the side and landed by one of the staffs. The fish was hurriedly placed in the “jackpot” fish holding tank. The Abu Garcia Conolon fishing rod comes with quality EVA grip. I then put on another mullet and cast it out into the pond. This time the wait was much longer. I sat there watching a few anglers battle it out with fishes before the Abu Garcia Cono- lon rod started loading up again. This time the fish managed to swim into a snag. I was caught off guard and did not know that there was a snag right in front of me. A friend then point- ed out that the arrows drawn on the side of the ponds show where the snags are.
