Most anglers will be happy with a good rod, built using high quality blanks and components. Some demand more. They want great rods. Rods that not only cast well, fights well, and is built well. But for some even great is not enough. They want rods that not only cast well, fights well, is well built, and comes with equipped with some of the best components. They also want rods that are exquisite and have a story to tell. For the echelons I give you the Abu Garcia Eradicator rods.

When it comes to the Abu Garcia Eradicator rods, we are no longer just talking about fishing and catching something big. We are talking about finely tuned rods built with finesse levels of craftsmanship, with attention to detail so fine that even Pininfarina; the designers of Ferraris and many other works of refined craftsmanship would be amazed. Well, I may be exaggerating a little but even if I am it still a wow factor.

Toray Blank

The Abu Garcia Eradicator rods all come with high performance, lightweight, strong, and supersensitive 100% carbon blanks (Nano Carbon) built by Toray using the TAF or “Triarchy Force” method. For those not in the know; Toray makes some of the best fishing rod blanks (as well as other sporting, etc. equipment too) in the fishing world. TORAYCA® are high quality carbon fibre blanks that are thin, light, sensitive, and strong.

*Do note that there are rods out there that claim to use Toray blanks but actually do not.

Weightlessness And Balanced

A well balanced rod will feel lighter than it really is but the Abu Garcia Eradicator brings light weight to a different level. The use of high quality lightweight Fuji titanium Torzite guides alone would have trimmed the weight of the rod down significantly. The craftsmen that designed and built the Abu Garcia Eradicator brought its weight down even further by using micro guides instead of the usual guides.

Micro Guide System not only brings the weight of the rod down but also increase the performance of a fishing rod. How? Micro guides are tiny guides. Being tiny, the micro guides reduces line flutter during the cast as lines shoot through them without much space to “free play.” This adds to casting accuracy.

Having a very small hole has another huge advantage especially with such a sensitive blank. Guides with small holes makes the fishing rod a lot more sensitive as the lines are in constant contact with the guide, and smaller guides come with smaller surface ratios; hence the transmission of vibrations is a lot higher. Micro guides add to the sportiness in the “looks department” too making the Abu Garcia Eradicator rod look really good.

Going Back To Balance…

The blank, guides, grip or handles, end caps, threads, washers, and reel seats all have a role to play when it comes to balancing a fishing rod. Coming with the Micro Guide System; balancing the Abu Garcia Eradicator rods will require lesser weight at the butt section. To do so, Abu Garcia’s engineers decided to minimize the use of EVA and go with a super light reel seat by Fuji with embossed Abu Garcia brand name that builds further its exquisite looks.

This “Blank Touch Design” reel seat is not just used as a means to reduce weight and to balance the rod. It has another advantage. It allows the angler to have constant contact with the blank adding even more to the sensitivity of the rod. Imagine driving a car where the steering wheel transmits even the slightest of dents from the road to your hands. This hypersensitivity is what the Abu Garcia Eradicator rods come with.

“Blank Touch Design” reel seat by Fuji looks great, is lightweight, enhances sensitivity, grips reels well, etc. In short; simply awesome.

But what about balance? Okay, the Abu Garcia Eradicator rods are very well balanced rods. They are so well balanced that they feel more like magical wands (not magic wands) that are being managed by some magical power that defies the Earth’s gravitational force. Of course if you were to drop the Abu Garcia Eradicator rod, it would not just levitate in the air. It will fall to the ground too; in time.

There are a few Abu Garcia Eradicator rod types for different fishing applications. As for now I have only had a feel of the Real Finesse Temptation II, the realFinesse Super Keen Sensor, the RealFinesse Slow Tapper Special 73″, and the RealFinesse Super Slow Tapper Special. Here is one other special thing about these slow tapper rods. Most slow tapper rods are not sensitive and are quite dull at best. Not these. They are super sensitive.

While the rods are tough they are made for a certain type of fishing; the type enjoyed by the few anglers within a certain exquisite category where the battle is not a tug-o-war, but an art.
