Abu Garcia MAX® series of low profile reels are awesome reels for those with a lower budget yet want a high performance, high quality reel, and also for those who want to transition from spinning reels to baitcasting reels. These are great reels to learn with especially for those who prefer to be proper bait casters. The Abu Garcia MAX® STX is of awesome reels in the MAX® family.

The Abu Garcia MAX® STX low profile reels are great looking reels with a sleek sporty design. The sizes of these reels have also become smaller making allowing them to fit better with higher comfort levels in an angler’s hands as compared to low profile reels of earlier days. Reel designers have been bringing the sizes down and when you think they cannot go any smaller, out comes one.
Notice the orange “pin handle?” This is what is used to unlock the side plate.
As with the Abu Garcia MAX® STX spinning reels, the Abu Garcia MAX® STX low profile reels come with the same colour configuration being silver (side plates), black (frame, handle, star drag, etc.), and candy orange (handle grip and side plate lock). The candy orange handle grip does look like orange flavoured gum; “Bubble Gum” to those who lived through those times before the manufacturers changed it to “Bubble Yum.”

Holding it in my hands I noticed how nicely it fits and with its lightweight built; I can only imagine hours of fun with it on the water. One thing that the Abu Garcia MAX® STX low profile reels have that the other Abu Garcia MAX® low profile reels do not have is a flipping switch; an additional convenience to those who do flipping.
This reel comes with a flipping switch for those who do flipping.
Abu Garcia’s proven MagTrax™ brake system is used in the Abu Garcia MAX® STX low profile reels to help anglers control the cast. The magnetic brakes come with five magnets with slots for another five more should one decides to upgrade. Setting the brakes is done using a dial that is located on one of the side plates. Turning the dial increases or decreases the amount of braking force placed on the spool.

Speed wise the Abu Garcia MAX® STX low profile reels is not bad. It will certainly keep you within the safety zones of the speed police. At 25 inches per turn the Abu Garcia MAX® STX low profile reel is certainly at a speed that gives anglers plenty of room to easily control the speed of plastic lures, spoons, spinners, and soft baits.
