Abu Garcia Beast
Rod Field Test
The term ‘Beast’ has been all the fuss lately with the launch of the new Abu Garcia Rev4 Beast low profile reel. This monster Killer has been making waves in quite a few fishing communities especially those related to Abu Garcia. Another ‘Beast’ that needs a re-mention is the Abu Garcia Beast rod; a monster killing rod.
Camo coloured EVA for a jungle warfare theme.
This camo coloured jungle warfare themed rod has been slaying monsters even before the arrival of the Rev4 Beast reel. In fact, it has been slaying monsters and patiently waiting for the arrival of the Rev4 Beast reel, its partner in crime. Putting two ‘beasts’ together gives us a super ‘Beast’, the ultimate fighting machine that could take on any challenger in fight club, give him or her a vedgie, and beat the crap out of whoever it’s fighting.

Get In The Rink
Having got my hands on the Rev4 Beast, we paired it with the Abu Garcia Beast rod. This is to test the capabilities of the rod to see if it is worthy of its callsign, ‘Beast.’
We took it to the LS Pond in Jugra, set it up, and threw it in the rink. After settling some kinks the Abu Garcia Beast rod was ready for battle. We flicked out the bait and waited for hell to break loose. It didn’t take long before we got ourselves into a serious battle. We were battling it out with a very hard fighting gladiator of a grouper.
The gladiator making hard runs wearing out the angler. The Abu Garcia Beast rod taking on the challenge.
The brute made some very hard sudden runs but each time it did, the Abu Garcia Beast rod absorbed the shock from the run well. Its backbone power will then kick in when the curve reaches a certain section of the blank. The rod then holds on to that power until either the fish or the angler pushes up the pressure. The power than increases in a gradual and consistent power. The harder the pull, the greater the pressure applied by the backbone.

Such power tires out the fish pretty fast. The hard fighting groupers made a few good runs but the runs got shorter and shorter pretty fast. After a while of battle the brute was by the side of the pond preparing itself for the photography session before being released back into the pond to fight other battles.

Other than some hard fighting groupers it also very easily subdued a big barramundi. It was a good but short lived fight and within minutes the barramundi was smiling for the camera. The Abu Garcia Beast rod absorbed the runs and held on to the tension well. Its consistent power curve allowed the barramundi to be subdued fast.

Should Yourself The Abu Garcia Beast Rod?
Well, this depends very much on the type of angler you are. If you are the type that loves getting into the rink and go bull on bull with the brute that is prepared to do the same, then yes. The Abu Garcia Beast rod could be your best battle and workout buddy. Before long you will have larger arms and a bigger back from all the workout. But if you prefer to go ballet dancing with the fish, then just walk on by.
This is the latest Beast by Abu Garcia for the latest Revo range of low profile reels. We the that the Beast is one tough reel but just how tough is it really?
