Abu Garcia
Ocean Project II
When the Abu Garcia Ocean Project II reached my office, the army of cats waiting at the parking lot stared at me probably knowing that the black and orange fish catching stick I held in my hand could be the answer to their greediness. Either that or someone has used it and it smells of fish.
Damn the nitwit that feeds these cute poo machines, that kill cute little birds when they are bored yet are afraid of rats. These cats are not going to get a fish from me; no, nothing that I will catch with this rod. See, the Abu Garcia Ocean Project II is made to catch big fishes, fishes so big that these cowardly cats would run for the hills at the mere sight of it. That said, I practise catch, photograph, and release.
A cute little “poo machine” hanging out.
Citrusy Sporty
Few jaw dropping sports cars come in the colour orange. Right off my mind I can think of Lamborghini, McLaren, and Lotus. But amongst the three, the Ocean Project II leans more towards the Lotus. It’s no pocket rocket but like the Lotus, it is the choice that will least likely burn a hole in your pocket.
Sporty Looking metallic purple winding check.
Extra High Density Carbon blank.
The Ocean Project II comes with a little carbon fibre sticker wrap, metallic purple and orange washers, metallic purple winding checks, metallic purple winding threads, sexy EVA handles, and a synthetic cork end cap. It comes in metallic orange (the likes of the Lotus) and black like the ebony keys on a piano.
Synthetic cork made of rubber looks good and is practical.
Light(er) On The Pocket
We all love sports cars especially the Lamborghinis and the McLarens but few are lucky enough to be able to afford them. A few more can buy them but not maintain them. Some actually do, but cannot afford to drive them. A good choice for those with the want but not the bank account to do so is to buy the Lotus. It looks good, is actually quite fast, drives well straight, as well as around corners, etc.
Ok, I am going to cut the crap here and just tell you this. The Ocean Project II does look good and sporty, yet it is relatively cheap especially since it comes with a well known brand stuck to it. Here’s is why. The Ocean Project II comes with standard components of which is a code word for non-Fuji. What you get are standard components built onto a reliable ‘Extra High Density Carbon’ blank.
Standard guides; still good for fishing and they keep the price low. This allows the angler to upgrade his rod when he feels like doing so.
How clever is that? Here you have a sporty looking rod that will turn heads of anglers fishing with you on your trip, and yet cost lower than the trip you are on. Should you prefer to upgrade it in the future with Fuji components you can, but for now you have this cool looking rod that feels good and does perform quite well; not forgetting its European name tag.
Printed reel seat gives the rod a classier look.
Well, of course if you can easily afford the Lamborghini or the McLaren and want to drive one; go ahead and merrily do. But if you want sportiness yet do not have the bank account to support it; you have another choice. This here is the Abu Garcia Ocean Project II; your Lotus. Which model you choose is entirely up to you but at least you look good with a branded rod in hand that has the performance capabilities to back it.
Engraved Abu Garcia brand logo at the rear EVA handle gives a more premium look.
