September 2021- The one question on the minds of anglers is this; is fishing in Malaysia allowed now? There is good news and there is not so good news. The good news is yes, fishing is allowed. The not so good news is that fishing is only allowed to those who are fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated means that you have gotten all the needed vaccine shots and have waited patiently passed the time before the vaccines become fully effective at providing protection.
What It Means To Be Fully Vaccinated
Fully vaccinated individuals are individuals who have gotten all doses of vaccine and have passed the waiting period according to the vaccine type (brand) below:
Two doses + at least 14 days after second vaccination
Pfizer
AstraZeneca
Sinovac
Single dose + at least 28 days after vaccination
Johnson & Johnson
CanSino
Can we go fishing? Can we? Can we?
Keeping Safe
It is important to note that although we may be fully vaccinated, there may be those at home who are not vaccinated. Being vaccinated does mean that we have protection but it does mean that we cannot bring the virus home and spread the virus to those closest to us, especially those who have not gotten the vaccine yet. It is important to follow SOPs and take precautions too.
The precautions include:-
Staying about 3 metres apart from the next person.
Wearing a face mask properly (covering mouth and nose) at all times.
Sign in by scanning the MySejahtera QR code at all premises including pay-ponds.
Sanitize and wash hands with soap often.
Yes! Yes we can!
Take note that we are still not allowed to cross district borders, let alone state borders. So, go fishing within your district. Should you decide to bring your kids fishing you can. Although children age below the age 17 are still not vaccinated, you can bring them out but do take precautions. What about those 17 and above? Unfortunately, they will have to be fully vaccinated. Picnicking is also allowed as long as you stick to the SOPs and follow all precautions.
Time To Hit The Water
Although we are now allowed to partake in our favourite hobby, please remember that it is not 100% safe as before the pandemic hit. That said, go and enjoy fishing but be vigilant in keeping yourself safe. Avoid any crowd, sanitize often, wear your mask always when you are outside, scan your MySejahtera, etc. Protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community. Fish safe, stay safe.
