The Abu Garcia MAX Low Profile Reels That Click
By: Phil Foo
Screaming reels; the awesome music to the ear of most anglers. I have not met an angler who dislikes the sound of a reel screaming. If you are one, contact me. I want to know what the heck is wrong with you… Haha! Don’t take offense please. I am only joking. Yes, most anglers like to hear their reels screaming but most low profile baitcasting reels do not come with a clicker, and hence do not scream.
[ Of course if you are one who removes or breaks off (on purpose) the clicker of your reels, preferring the serene quietness instead… ]
This brings me to the Abu Garcia MAX 41 and 61, two larger sized low profile baitcasting reels that are part of Abu Garcia’s MAX reel family. The Abu Garcia MAX 61 being the larger of the two, definitely looks like a monster beater. But what makes them stand out within the MAX family is that they both come with clickers or bite alarms, giving them the ability to scream.

Of course if you are one who removes or breaks off (on purpose) the clicker of your reels, preferring the serene quietness instead; the clicker on the Abu Garcia MAX 41 and 61 can either be turned on or off. You can simply switch it off by pushing the on / off switch to off. In reality everyone will have it turned off when fishing with lures. One will turn it on when trolling or fishing with livebait. That is after all the function of a bite alarm.
Ok, sounds aside, the Abu Garcia MAX 41 and 61 are designed for heavier fishing, especially the 61. This means that they are made for fishing bigger lures that and deep divers. The Abu Garcia MAX 41 comes with a 6.4:1 gear ratio which gives it faster cranking abilities and is great for general lure casting. The 61 on the other hand comes with a 5.3:1 gear ratio making it awesome for fishing big lures that require higher cranking power.

Both the Abu Garcia MAX 41 and 61 comes with Abu Garcia’s Power Stack™ Carbon Matrix Drag System that exudes lots of power allowing for better control of big hard fighting fish. Both reels also come with 4+1 High Performance Corrosion Resistant or HPCR bearings that provides smoother operating performances on the water. Corrosion resistant also translates to longer lifespan.

As of now patients is a must as I am not sure when the Abu Garcia MAX 41 and 61 low profile baitcasting reels will reach our shores (or airports). What I do know is that I cannot wait to go catch some fish with them. Stay tuned for announcement on their arrival in a future issue. Meanwhile, let’s go catch some fish.
