Abu Garcia Pro Max 4 Low Profile Baitcasting Reel (JDM)
By: The Angler
It must have been at least 12 to 13 years ago since the first Abu Garcia Pro Max low profile baitcasting reels dropped anchor on our shores together with its market breaking band of brothers; the Black Max and the Silver Max low profile baitcasting reels. These reels couldn’t leave the assembly lines fast enough to meet the demands of anglers worldwide. It was like when Mercedes Benz came out with the Mercedes Benz 190E and executives could finally own a Benz.
[ It was the baby Merc that changed the luxury car market game… ]
Well, if you are wondering if Mercedes Benz had such a model; they did. It was the baby Merc that changed the luxury car market game back in the day. The Abu Garcia Max series low profile baitcasting reels too, like the Mercedes Benz; brought high quality low profile baitcasting reels into the hands of anglers who wanted to go into baitcasting or to move up from subpar performing baitcasting reels to higher performance baitcasting reels without hurting the pocket.
A good looking reel the all new Abu garcia Black Promax 4 JDM is.
The Abu Garcia Pro Max low profile baitcasting reel then came in gold side plates, grey frame, and a chromed front lip. That was back then. The all new Abu Garcia Pro Max 4 low profile baitcasting reel (JDM) is generally black in colour with silver lines and a gun silver spool control knob; a more current design trend for the current angling market.
Sits comfortably in the hands of most anglers.
This new Abu Garcia Pro Max 4 low profile baitcasting reel (JDM) is definitely a lot sportier in design and is smaller too. It fits snuggly into the hands allowing for more comfort when fishing. This also allows us to fish longer with less fatigue. Weight too has dropped to 7.2oz. without fishing lines of course.
Magnetic brakes help with cast control.
The speed of the new Pro Max 4 (JDM) low profile baitcasting reel is good too. It retrieves lines at 71cm and has a gear ratio of 7.1:1. Not the fastest but certainly awesome for its price point. It will certainly make casting for sebaraus (Hampala macrolepidota aka Hampala barb) an easy feat since there is a need for speed. Anyway, below are some of its features.

I cannot wait to get myself out there in the water casting to sebaraus and tomans (giant snakehead aka Channa micropeltes). One of the low profile baitcasting reels I will have with me on the trip will certainly be the Abu Garcia Pro Max 4 (JDM). It certainly is pocket friendly, it looks good and certainly not too showy, and it is tough; ready to take on hard fighter. The sebaraus and tomans are certainly worthy opponents.
