Abu Garcia Revo 5th Generation Reels

Wow! Abu Garcia’s Revo reel series is now in its 5th Generation. I witnessed the birth of the Abu Garcia Revo reel series and I have seen these reels get better and better and better over the years; something like watching a child grow up from a baby until he or she becomes a teenager. Every new generation gets me all excited and this generation is no exemption.

While I do not yet have one to play with out in the field, I managed to play with them (one of each model) at Pure Fishing Malaysia; Abu Garcia’s HQ in Malaysia. Just holding them in my hands turned me into a little boy again. That said, I’d rather be a boy, happy with my toys, than to be a stressed out adult; would you also agree?

Fresh New Ergonomic Design
The 5th generation Abu Garcia Revo reels look awesome. They have been designed not just to look good. Its new design serves up a good dose of functionality as well. Imagine a sofa that looks good, hugs you snuggly when you sit on it, and keeps you feeling comfortable hugged as long as you are sitting on it.
Abu Garcia’s 5th generation Revo reels seems smaller in size. Its front lip now has a rounded curve that curves more to one side, instead of the previous sharp nosed designed. This new currently line up looks sporty and futuristic. When held, it fits so well especially when palming the reel. The designers in Abu Garcia designed these reels to be held on to comfortably.
The rounded front lip of the reel allows for my index finger to curve around it providing much comfort. The grip on the reel feels a lot more confident. Perhaps better surface connection between finger and reel lip created this magic. I believe so, although I cannot be sure until I field test the reel. It definitely feels great in my hands. I am all in for this new design.

Lightweight Delight
Like F1 cars and exotic sports cars, reels seem to be getting lighter and lighter. The generation 5 Revo reels feels light. I do get puzzled sometimes. How light can they get the weight of reels down to? While light weight is good as it allows for longer fishing periods before feeling the strain in one’s arms; how lightweight can they really go before birds can just come and carry them away? Haha, my weird mind and I.
Smooth Performer
Again, I am writing this based on how the reels felt without fishing lines on, and not out on the field actually fishing with them. Rotating the handles, these reels feel smooth. Allow me to clarify; smooth with a feeling of engagement. Some reels feel disengaged. The Revo 5 reels don’t. I prefer the feeling of engagement. It is like being able to feel the road via the steering wheel of the car. It allows for better control with the feedback.

I would love to share more about the new 5th Generation Abu Garcia Revo reels but as at this moment, these are all I have. I will field test at least one of them. When I do so, I will be able to share more. Till then, do check out some of the features below that make these new reels awesome.
